Southern Necessity #5: Outerwear

Just because it might not drop into the teens in the South doesn't mean we don't prepare for it! A high-quality fleece jacket is something I am definitely willing to spend a good amount on. The North Face Denali jacket has been a staple in my wardrobe since I was younger but since I've been in college, I've noticed that it is very...common. I switched it up 2 years ago when I found the company Mountain Hardwear. I love my Mountain Hardwear jacket so much and now have 2 more. I also have a few Patagonia fleece pullovers that I love as well. My boyfriend favors Arc'teryx because they are the best at keeping him warm when he goes hunting and hiking.

Here are some of my favorites from the brands above:

Southern Necessity #4: Croakies

As Southerners, we love accessories! I certainly never go out without my sunglasses and of course, my sunglasses never go without their croakies. Along with being very functional, croakies are also very fashionable. I've got a large collection of them that I change around to match my outfit. Here are some of the styles that I love:

Southern Necessity #3: Footwear

Living in the South, the weather is absolutely insane. You've got to be prepared for any kind of weather on any given day. My shoe collection is fairly simple and includes a lot of the staples in a Southern woman's closet. Here are some of my favorite shoes:

What are your go-to pair of shoes?

Southern Necessity #2: Koozies

Koozies... one thing that I carry with me everywhere! Not only do koozies come in a wide range of colors, prints, and patterns, but they keep your drink cold!! I have at least one koozie in all of my purses, in my car, my bookbag, and randomly around my room. My roommates and I even have a whole drawer filled with them!! The collection ranges from monogrammed koozies to ones from local stores to fraternity rush koozies and also ones from our favorite Southern clothing brands.

You can find koozies to fit anything: bottles, cans, water bottles, and even whole wine bottles!!

What does your koozie collection look like?

Best,
Syd.

Southern Necessity #1: Headbands

Ever since I was a little girl, I've always loved wearing headbands. This love of headbands is still with me into my early 20's. I'd much rather wear my hair with a headband instead of a ponytail because it still keeps your hair out of your face and also looks more polished.

Here are some of my favorites:

Southern Tide

Southern Tide is one of my absolute FAVORITE clothing lines. I love the way their polos look on men and of course, the skipjack logo. I've bought ST polos for my Dad & boyfriend as gifts and they love the feel and fit of them.

In addition to amazing polos, Southern Tide also has sport shorts, pullovers, shorts, slacks, boxers, and t-shirts, and lounge pants. Everything ST comes out with is awesome. Their most recent item are the golf visors.

They also carry croakies and koozies which are essentials for every college student in the South!

What is your favorite Southern Tide item?

Best,
Syd.

Cooler painting!

Part of being a sorority girl (at least to me) is being able to craft. Be it painting a paddle, letters, a banner, or a cooler, anything you make should look good. Obviously there is SO much more to being a Sorority woman than crafting but this is definitely something we do...A LOT.

I've painted a few coolers in my time for various fraternity formals and boy, do they take a lot of time and effort. I've gotten a lot of ideas from a Facebook group where I lot of people upload pictures of their coolers. Here are some that are my favorites:

The best part about this is seeing your date's face when you give him the cooler filled with koozies, his favorite alcohol, mixers, and snacks. Fraternity formals are definitely events that I think everyone should experience!!

Syd.

OOTD for Christmas Shopping!

Today I got up early and braved the mall! Boy, was this a feat!! The weekend before Christmas is always the craziest time and of course, I'm one of those people who waited til the last minute to do ALL their shopping! I did manage to get everyone's gifts without totally breaking my budget. Here's my OOTD for shopping:

This is basically my go-to outfit when I run errands, it's SO comfortable! I love my Patagonia pullover because it's the Men's version which is SO much softer and cozier than the women's. UGGS of course because they're warm, AE jeans are a God send because they fit perfectly, and my trusty Vera Bradley hipster!

Here's what I got everyone for Christmas:

Mom- more charms for her Pandora bracelet because that's one piece she always wears! She's got so many different sets of charms & she changes her bracelet around like twice a week. I also got her some kitchen things from Crate & Barrel.

Dad- I already ordered him a few Southern Tide polos but I wanted to get him something he could hang in his new office so I got him a print of Rupp Arena. This is the gift I'm excited to give the most because I know he's going to LOVE it.

Brother- I got him a new pair of Sperry Top-Siders and a new North Face bookbag. I wanted to get him things he could actually use so I figured those would be good choices!

Little sister- My 7 year old sister was the funnest to shop for! I got her a unicorn Pillow Pet and a ton of princess stuff! I'm also going to take her for her first mani/pedi which I think she's going to love!!

Big sis in my sorority- I got her two pairs of Nike shorts (I actually found colors she didn't have!) and a Vera Bradley clutch type wallet.

Roomies- Instead of doing individual gifts, I got us stuff for the apartment. I got a few cute frames, some things for the kitchen, and a set of 4 Tervis Tumblers with straws & lids.

What did y'all get your family/friends?

Best,
Syd.
